The lovely skin we are using for this page now includes that set of postcards in the top right. Last night I finished replacing the pictures with our own stock. The pictures of the Grand Canyon,  Lake Mead, and the clouds were taken by Mary and Caitlin during their trip to Las Vegas this summer. The shot of Nelson standing at Talulah Gorge was during the motorcyle trip he and I took this summer.  The dog pictures are from sometime in the past year.

Sometime in the next few days I plan to tweak things so there are more than 10 postcards and so each has the usual text caption when the mouse runs over it. The pictures in the side bar include some of the same shots along with some others that are stored in our flickr page.

4000 Miles and New Pants

27 Oct

We took the motorcycle in for it 4K check up this weekend. While we where in the shop Mary bought me a new pair of pants. The weather has started to turn a little cool and the bike has been parked in the garage for eight out of the past ten days. I think she was worried that I was starting to cave on the deal we made when she let me get the bike. The deal was that getting the bike meant riding the bike. I have to average riding it at least half the days of the year to justify having it and not replacing the aging Jeep now instead of letting it limp along until it dies.

So now I have these nifty black pants with a removable quilted liner, a removable rain liner, removable outer covers that expose mesh panels for hot weather.

And no excuses not to ride until the weather turns really cold.

Where We Are

27 Oct

Ok well here we go on our new home page! Pretty cool stuff out there these days.

So on with the post…This is an update to let everyone know where we are now. As a family we are in our 8th year of homeschooling! That puts Caitlin (17) at the top of the class as a “Senior” and Nelson (13) is rounding the last corner of middle school, looking forward to being a “Freshman” next year.  Butch is working hard as a member of the Nokia team and staying very busy. Due to some physical/medical problems (bone spurs and protruding disk in his neck) he has retired from the Taekwondo world after earning his second degree Black Belt. I am still working with Angels on Call as a postpartum doula and having fun with babies.

The kids are busy with activities as usual. Caitlin is dancing, Ballet and Point, for her 10th year. She is also taking piano lessons. Girl Scouts is wrapping up this year. She will be earning her Gold Award which is the highest award you can earn in Girl Scouts. Caitlin’s newest “activity” is DRIVING! This comes with some mixed feelings of course! It sure is convenient but somewhat scary! How lucky she is, she bops around in a very cute Toyota Rave 4 given to her by her Aunt Vicki and Uncle William.  Nelson is no longer doing Boy Scouts or dance but is in his 5th year of competition cheerleading. He is cheering at a new gym this year, TNT Allstars. He really likes it a lot. They will be making a name for themselves when their competitions start in November!

The home invaders…we still have Biscuit ( 7yrs. dog), Teddy ( 6yrs. monster dog), Susannah (@13yrs. bird) and a few tanks of fish (who pretty much stay put in their tanks and don’t bother us too much).

The “new” house we talked about getting on the old page…as you could guess is now well lived in! It is still standing but could really use some maid service! We are very comfy here though and still love the house. As an added plus, Butch’s sister, Vicki and her family now live in the neighborhood. It is great to have them close. Vicki and William have two sons, Web (7) and Tanner (5).

That seems to conclude the Where We Are segment of this page…for now anyway!

WordPress is the New Home Page

20 Oct

We have switched our home page to WordPress from the built-from-scratch experimental code I was (not) playing with for a few years. Now let’s see if we can make this place look like we really want it be a place the reports the comings and goings of our little tribe.
